All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ MARY SUE RICHARDSON A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Mary Sue Richardson, 57, who drowned in a pond in the western part of Franklin Saturday night was conducted Monday at 3 p.m. in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk by the Rev. Charles Smith of Franklin Congregational Christian Church and the Rev. Edwin C. Thornton Jr. of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home was in charge. Pallbearers were Bill Richardson, Bob Richardson, Aubrey Fitzgerald, Jarvis Howell Jr., Emmett Rawls Jr., and Howard Richardson Jr. Members of the Franklin Rescue Squad found her body after dragging the pond about 8:30 p.m., Dr. W.O. Ward, medical examiner, reported. She had been missing for some hours and a search was made in that area, since she had been know to take frequent walks there. The pond, near Poplar Spring Cemetery, is about four blocks from her home and is near the Norfolk, Franklin & Danville Railway. Mrs. Richardson was the wife of Donald B. Richardson, who is employed in the Union Camp Corp. offices here. The body was taken to the Holland Funeral Home. Mrs. Richardson, a native of Nansemond County, was a daughter of the late Jasper and Susie Carson Daughtrey. She was a member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church. She is survived by her husband; five sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Anderson of Richmond, Mrs. Elsie Godfrey of Virginia Beach, Mrs. Edith Rawls and Mrs. Jarvis Howell of Holland, and Mrs. Ida Graves of Lacey Spring, and two brothers, Hunter and Jasper Daughtrey of Carrsville.
