All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ REBIE WHITFIELD RIDDICK Mrs. Rebie Whitfield Riddick, a native of Courtland, Va. , died Saturday, January 11, 1986 in a local hospital. She was the widow of Dr. John D. Riddick. She was educated at Randolph-Mason Institute in Danville where she later taught piano and studied at the Juliard School of Music in New York City. She was an accomplished pianist. She was organist and choir director at the Franklin Baptist Church for eighteen years and taught piano until her death. She was a member of the Courtland United Methodist Church, the Franklin Music Study Club, and the Southampton Historical Society. In 1982 she was honored for her contribution to the musical and cultural life in the City of Franklin and Southampton County by the Walter Cecil Rawls Museum Arts. She is survived by twin sons, Robert Whitfield Riddick and William Henry Riddick, both of Franklin; a brother, E. Newton Whitfield, Virginia Beach; and four grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday in the Courtland United Methodist Church by the Reverends Luther M. Marks and Donald J. Dunlap. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, with Wright Funeral Home in charge. The family will be at 109 Irving Street, Franklin. Memorial donations may be made to the Riddick memorial Music Fund of the Walter Cecil Rawls Library and Museum, Courtland, Va. 23837 for the purpose of purchasing a piano for the museum in her memory.
