The end came without warning, while talking on the phone in her home and while enjoying her usual good health. No one ever came in contact with this good woman without being impressed with her fineness of character and the peculiar, natural form of temperament that ingratiated, fascinated and held the admiration, emanating from a spirit that was always kind, gentle and considerate of all. She loved to make friends - a visit to her home was never forgotten. The charm of such a Christian Hospitality as was dispensed by her left its imprint with a desire to return. Home to her was the most sacred place where she presided with such grace of manner and an eminent degree of maternal affection, that made of it a haven of happiness and contentment where the sunshine of her own soul found its reflection in the love and affections of her family. She was a devoted Christian, devoted to her church - its purposes and aims met within her a hearty response and her ideal of Christian family and fidelity to God is now realized. The writer mingles his sorrow in gratitude with those who weep, for kind works and sympathy from her in a time of his own distress. Her words then, I pass to you, "God Tempers the wind to the shorn lamb." Be glad that she has escaped the sorrows and troubles of this world, merely transplanted to her home in Heaven where she waits for the beckons you to come to be with her again, where no sorrow enters, where joy and happiness reign forever. Mrs. Ridley at her death, was sixty-two years of age, born of distinguished lineage, of a type, now so fast disappearing, and not replaced. She was a daughter of the late Col. W.S. Goodwyn and M.A. Goodwyn, his wife, of Emporia, Va. She is survived by her husband, J. Wm. Ridley, and several children as follows: Mrs. Wm. Shands, Courtland; Garnet B. Ridley, Bristow, Tenn., J. Buford, Emporia, and a host of admiring and sorrowing friends, who followed to her last resting place, where banks of beautiful, immaculate flowers were place upon her grave, a mute, but evident evidence of the great esteem in which she was held.
