All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ FENTON GARNETT RIDLEY Fenton Garnett Ridley, aged 66 years, son of the late John William and Bettie Goodwyn Ridley of "Violet Hill Plantation," near Courtland, died in the Petersburg Hospital on Saturday, July 19, after a brief illness. Mr. Ridley, who had lived in Waverly for the past twenty years, owned and operated the Waverly Drug Store. He attended the Locust Dale Military Academy and was a member of the Waverly Episcopal Church. In 1909 Mr. Ridley was married to Miss Lita Barrett, who died in 1925. To this union was born one son, John A. Ridley, of Stony Creek. In 1940 Mr. Ridley was married to Mrs. Marion Kilmartin Allen, who survives. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at three o'clock form the Waverly Episcopal Church and burial was made in the Courtland Cemetery. Besides his wife and son he is survived by two brothers, Churchill Gibson Ridley of "Violet Hill Plantation" Courtland, and William G. Ridley of Woodlyn, N.J.; four sisters, Mrs. E.F. Reese, Jr., and Mrs. Annie Shands of Courtland, Mrs. Harry Musgrave of Leesburg, and Mrs. Elliott Vawter of Huntington, West Va.; and one granddaughter, Miss Lita Barrett Ridley of Stony Creek. Active pallbearers were Messrs. Fitzhugh Carr, Franklin Rose, R.H. Clark, J.W. Thompson, James W. Cooper, Stanley Bage, L.E. Pope, and C.H. Bollinger. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. C.P. Niblett, Dr. H.G. Stoneham, A.D. Mayes, William B. Cocke, John H. Cole, H.B. Ponds, D.P. Chamble, Alton E. Jones, Frank P. Pulley, Jr., Garland Gray, I.M. Fronfelter, Vernon Jennings, O.P. Baird, A. Paul Harris and Dr. C.D. Townes.
