GARNETT RIDLEY BURIED IN COURTLAND Mrs. F. Garnett Ridley of Jackson, Tenn., wife of F. Garnett Ridley, formerly of this county and the oldest son of J. William Ridley, died at her home in Jackson on New Year's Day and was buried in Courtland Saturday at noon, services being conducted from the home of Mr. Ridley's sister, Mrs. William Shands, by Dr. Myron B. Marshall, rector of Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, Norfolk. Interment followed in the Ridley family plot in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, and the body bearers were: Dr. W.T. McLemore, H.B. McLemore, W.J. Sebrell, H.P. Pope, R.B. Story, C.W. Williams, J.A. Pretlow and Dr. W.E. Snipes. Mr. Ridley left Southampton quite a number of years ago, but he and his wife had visited here on several different occasions and Mrs. Ridley had made a most favorable and lasting impression upon all who met her on her frequent trips to her husband's old home. The Jackson Daily Sun said of her in its announcement of her death in that city: Mrs. F.G. Ridley, one of Jackson's best known and beloved women, died this morning at 1:35 o'clock at her home on Terrace Place following a lingering illness. Her death, while not unexpected, has cast its shadow of sorrow over her many friends and much sympathy is being expressed today for her devoted husband and little son. Mrs. Ridley was born in Zanesville, O. Both parents died in her early life and she went to Bristol, Tenn., in her young womanhood to make her home. She was married there 15 years ago to Mr. Ridley and they came two years later to Jackson to make their home, Mr. Ridley having entered the drug business here. Thirteen years of residence in Jackson had endeared her to a large circle of friends. Her splendid traits of character had drawn hundreds to her, and many beautiful ties of friendship are severed by her death. She was a member of the Episcopal church and was a consistent Christian, casting rays of sunshine into the lives of others and inspiring hope and good cheer in those in need. Only close friends knew of the many deeds of charity that were hers; for she sought always to conceal her identity in these and to place the emphasis upon the deed itself. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at St. Luke's church, conducted by Dr. L.W. Doud. Many beautiful floral emblems attested the love and esteem in which she was held. The remains were taken over the N.C. & St. L. train at 3 p.m. to Courtland, Va., home of Mr. Ridley, where the burial will occur. The remains were accompanied by Mr. Ridley and son, Jack, aged 11.
