Mr. Railey, a native of Southampton County, was a member of Severn United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school. He was a member of Newsoms Masonic Lodge 128, former president of Carolina-Virginia Peanut association, and served as district deputy grand master and treasurer of Grand Lodge of Virginia in 1970. He also served on the town of Severn board of commissioners for 26 years and was on the board of trustees of the Northampton County Museum. Survivors include his wife, Carrie Worrell Railey; two daughters, Jane R. Chitty of New Bern, N.C., and Rosalyn R. Johnson of Conway, N.C.; a brother Russell B. Railey of Newsoms; and seven grandchildren. A graveside service was conducted Tuesday in Hollywood Cemetery, Newsoms, by the Rev. H.W. Burnside. McDowell Funeral Home, Boykins, handled arrangements.
