RAILEY ENDS HIS OWN LIFE IN SUNBEAM HOME Prominent Southampton Surgeon Dies From Effect of Draught of Carbolic Acid Taken With Sucidal Intent Following Illness. Dr. Spurgeon J. Railey, of Sunbeam, Va., prominent physician of Southampton county, committed suicide early this morning at his home, by drinking carbolic acid, from which he died an hour later. Dr. Railey was about 45 years old and was well known in Southampton county where he had practiced for many years. He had been in ill health for some time and that is thought to be the reason for him taking his own life. He was a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia, and was the son of John Railey and the late Mrs. John Railey, of Como, N.C. Besides his wife he is survive by his father and several brothers and sisters. (BRITT) RAILEY; husband of Frances Ann RAILEY. Frances Ann (POND) RAILEY, daughter of Benjamin Walter & Gertrude Lee (FULMER) POND, d. 1 Sep 1978, in Norfolk, & was cremated. She is marked in Oak Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth.
