He was the husband of Lillie Howell Rawls and the son of the late John E. and India E. Rawls of Franklin. He was a life-long resident of Franklin, a member of the Franklin Baptist church and a member of the Pythian Lodge 51 for over fifty years. Surviving him besides his wife are one son, Edgar E. Rawls of Norfolk, and four daughters, Mrs. Herbert H. Saunders of Franklin, Mrs. J.E. Tatem of Norfolk, Mrs. Bryon W. Todd of Delray Beach, Fla., and Mrs. P.H. Kelly of Pleasant Ridge, Va., five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the W.J.M. Holland Funeral Home the Rev. R.D. [sic; Ira D.] Hudgins, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church. Burial will be in Poplar Spring cemetery. ****************************************************************************** DAN RAWLS, 76, DIES AT HOME John Daniel Rawls, 76, well-known resident of Franklin, died at his home early Friday, Dec. 19. He was the husband of Lillie Howell Rawls and the son of the late John E. Rawls and India V. Rawls of Nansemond County. He was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and the Franklin Baptist Church and the Franklin Pythian Lodge No. 51. He was a retired purchasing agent of the Aeronautical Division of the Langley Air Force Base. He is survived by one son, Edgar E. Rawls of Norfolk; four daughters, Mrs. J.E. Tatem of Norfolk, Mrs. Herbert H. Saunders of Franklin, Mrs. P.H. Kelly of Peasant Ridge, Va., Mrs. Byron W. Todd of Delray Beach, Fla., and five grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were Otto Harcum, Richmond Peters, Lawrence Johnson, Dr. Henry Gardner, Jr., Dr. Kurt Hirsch and Willie Barrows.
