He was the son of the late Robert and Diana Cutchin Rawls, of Nansemond County; a member of the South Quay Baptist Church, where he served as former chairman of the Board of Deacons, and in many other activities of the church. Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Louise Cutchin Rawls, of Holland; two sons, Lorillard Rawls, Winter Haven, Fla., and James E. Rawls, of Holland; one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Rawls Boykins [sic; Boykin], of Ivor; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. W.T. Pace, Sr., Franklin, and Miss Mabel Rawls, of Norfolk. Three brothers, Dr. Joel C. Rawls, R.P. Rawls and Sol W. Rawls, Sr., all of Franklin, and a number of nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home in Franklin, where it will lie in state until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be held at the graveside Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin, conducted by Rev. Preston Chappell, a former pastor of South Quay Baptist Church, and the Rev. R.D. Stephenson, a former pastor of Franklin Baptist Church. ****************************************************************************** Rites Tomorrow For John Rawls Funeral services for John Anthony Rawls, 85-year-old Nansemond County farmer who died yesterday, will be held at graveside tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. Officiating at the rites will be the Rev. Preston Chappell, former pastor of South Quay Baptist Church, and the Rev. R.D. Stephenson, former pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church. Rawls, who died in Obici Hospital after a short illness, was a was a former chairman of the board of deacons of South Quay Baptist Church and had been active for many years in the affairs of the church. The body was taken to the W.J.M. Holland and Sons funeral home in Franklin, where it will lie in state until the funeral. IN FRANKLIN Funeral services for John Anthony Rawls, well-known farmer of Nansemond County, were conducted this (Thursday) afternoon at 2:30 at the graveside in Poplar Spring Cemetery by Rev. Robert Christian Chappel, a former pastor of South Quay Baptist Church, and Rev. R.D. Stephenson, former pastor of Franklin Baptist Church.
