All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ KATIE BRITTINGHAM RAWLES Mrs. Katie Brittingham Rawles, 77, a former resident of Whaleyville, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. Sidney Barrett, near Franklin, on Monday morning, October 30, after an illness of several months. The deceased was the wife of William J. Rawles of Franklin, and was the daughter of the late John E. and Julia Taylor Brittingham of Berlin, Md. Mrs. Rawles held membership in Liberty Springs Christian Church, and for 50 years taught the Rawles Men’s Bible class of the Whaleyville Methodist Church. Besides her husband she is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Barrett; three grandchildren, Miss Iva Mary Barrett, a student at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Miss Katherine Barrett, a student at Madison College, and R. Sidney Barrett, Jr., of Franklin; two brothers, Harry E. Brittingham of Potter Valley, Calif. and E.F. Brittingham of Honolulu, T.H.; and one nephew, George Brittingham of San Diego, Calif. Funeral rites were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at the Holland Funeral Home by Dr. I.W. Johnson of Suffolk, Rev. J.S. Maxey and Rev. Jesse Dollar. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the active pallbearers being Bruce Arthur, R.O. Hayes, Frank Knight, Thomas D. Odom, Richard H. Rawles, Sr., and J.L. Rountree.
