MARTHA J. RAWLS Mrs. Martha J. Rawls died at her home here yesterday morning at 3 o'clock in her eighty-seventh year. Mrs. Rawls was one of Franklin's oldest inhabitants and had lived a long and useful life in the town and community. She was a noble Christian character, a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and one of the few remaining members of Old South Quay Church. She is survived by one son, W.B. Rawls, and by three daughters, Mrs. E.A. Dillon, Mrs. Mamie R. Thigpen and Mrs. S.B. Savage all of this town, besides several grandchildren and a wide circle of friends. The funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at four o'clock from her late residence by Elder Sylvester Hassell of Williamston, N.C. her pastor and life-long friend. Interment will be made in Poplar Spring cemetery.
