All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ NANNIE ELIZABETH COTTON RAWLS FRANKLIN - Mrs. Nannie Elizabeth Cotton Rawls, 92, one of Franklin’s oldest residents, died Wednesday night in her home after illness of many months. She was the widow of Uriah Rawls, Sr., and a daughter of Allan and Mrs. Elmyna Buxton Cotton of Southampton County. She was the oldest member of Franklin Baptist Church and a former member of Sycamore Baptist Church. She was a charter member of Women’s Missionary Society of Franklin Baptist Church and a member of United Daughters of the Confederacy. She is survived by six daughters, Mrs. J.B. Barnes and Miss Kate Rawls of Franklin, Mrs. Leslie E. Bush of Richmond, Mrs. Chaffee Scarborough of Miami, Fla., Mrs. Winston Camp of Ivor and Mrs. William P. Jones of Edenton, N.C.; three sons, Charles Spurgeon Rawls of Goldsboro, N.C., Dr. Edward Cotton Rawls of Darien, Conn., and Uriah Rawls, Jr., of Orange, Tex.; 23 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. A funeral service was held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Franklin Baptist Church with Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were William H. Cutchin, Harry Jones, James Barnes, Felton Johnson, Marion S. Whitfield, George E. Pillow, Dr. T.A. Morgan, Dr. J.W. Lambdin and Robert A. Vaughan.
