All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CHARLES RANDOLPH RAWLS The funeral services for Charles Randolph Rawls of the South Quay community, who died at Lakeview Hospital, Suffolk, Friday night, August 27, were conducted from the residence of his sister, Miss Christine Rawls, in Clay Street, Franklin, Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. L.F. Paulette, pastor of the Holland Baptist Church and a former pastor of South Quay, conducted the services, assisted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson of the Franklin Baptist Church. Special numbers were given by members of the Baptist church choir, and the crowd in attendance was one of the largest ever seen at a local funeral, Mr. Rawls having a wide and prominent family connection throughout this section. Interment was made in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the body bearers being: I.J. Jones, Harry Steinhardt, H.L. Westbrook, F.H. Johnson, Hutson [sic; Hudson] Howell, Lawrence Holland, P.O. Duck and Paul Scarborough. The deceased was a native and lifelong resident of the South Quay section, the son of the late Robert and Mrs. Diana Cutchin [sic; Cutchins] Rawls. He was a successful farmer, a consistent and loyal member of South Quay Baptist Church and clerk of the church. His illness was of quite a short duration, his death occuring within about ten days after he went to the hospital for treatment. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Garrie L. Rawls, daughter of the late Rev. J.E. Jones, and by five children, Miss Elizabeth Rawls, Eugenia, Charles R. Jr., Robert and James Rawls; five brothers, J.T. Rawls of Dunnellon, Fla., John A. Rawls of Holland and Dr. Joel C., R.P. and Sol W. Rawls of Franklin, and four sisters, Mrs. J.R.L. Johnson of Radford, Mrs. J. Paul Jones and Miss Christine Rawls of Franklin and Miss Mabel Rawls of Norfolk.
