Ira D. Hudgins. W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home was in charge. Pallbearers were Jim Rawls, S.W. Rawls, Jr., C.A. Cutchins III, L. Winder Lane, R.A. Pretlow, J. Vaughan Beale, Robert C. Ray and R. Bruce Johnson. Rawls, 80, the husband of Mrs. Roberta Fristoe Rawls, died Friday after a long illness. A native of Nansemond County, he was a son of Robert Rawls and Mrs. Dianna Cutchins Rawls. He was a member of the Bruner Bible Class. He was the founder of R.P. Rawls & Son, real estate and insurance agents, and a prominent sportsman. He introduced the breeding of the red Irish Setter in this area. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert Ashby Rawls; two brothers, Dr. J.C. Rawls and Sol W. Rawls of Franklin; and two grandchildren, Robert A. Rawls Jr. and Miss Betty Randolph Rawls, also of Franklin.
