All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLIAM JESSE RAWLES William Jesse Rawles, 81, husband of the late Katie Brittingham Rawles, died Saturday morning, February 17, at the home near Franklin of his daughter, Mrs. R. Sidney Barrett, after an illness of many months. He was the son of the late Edwin S. and Cornelia Norfleet Rawles of Nansemond County. He had been a member of the Liberty Springs Congregational Christian Church since childhood. A resident of this community for the past few years, he formerly resided in Whaleyville. Besides Mrs. Barrett he is survived by three grandchildren, Iva Mary Barrett, Katherine Barrett and R. Sidney Barrett, Jr., of Franklin; one sister, Mrs. Ava A. Rawles of Holland; one brother, V.E. Rawles of Henderson, N.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews Funeral services for Mr. Rawles were conducted at the funeral home of W.J.M. Holland and Sons on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by Revs. Jesse Dollar and Randolph L. Gregory. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, active pallbearers being Robert O. Hayes, Frank E. Howell, William J. Jones, Frank Knight, G.E. Pillow and Richard Rawles.
