RAWLINGS PROMINENT CITIZEN AND POSTMASTER OF CAPRON Edgar Eley Rawlings of Capron, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. P.B. Rawlings of Sussex County, was born August 19, 1883, and died August 6, 1932, in a Richmond hospital following an illness of several months. Mr. Rawlings was a prominent citizen and merchant of Capron where he made his home for a quarter of a century. He was postmaster in that town, a constant communicant and steward of the Capron M.E. Church, and a man of extensive business interests. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Irma Vincent Rawlings; two children, William Vincent Rawlings and Miss Sarah Elizabeth Rawlings of Capron; two brothers , W.S. and E.H. Rawlings of Sussex County; four sisters, Mrs. J.D. Williams of Petersburg; Mrs. J.H. Seaborne of Emporia; Miss Josie Rawlings of Sussex County and Mrs. R.C. Smith of Branchville. The funeral services were held from his residence in Capron Sunday afternoon in the presence of large assembly of friends conducting by Rev. C.H. Fielding of Dillwyn, Rev. A.K. Lambdin of Newsoms, Rev. R.H. Marks and Rev. W.H. Riddick of Capron. The Boykins quartette sang "Does Jesus Care?" and "Abide with Me," Mrs. Janet L. Freeman of Stony Creek singing "Home of the Soul" and Mrs. Purviance "My Jesus as Thou Wilt." Active pallbearers were: Dr. J.A. Grizzard, W.D. Reese, Junius W. Pulley, F.M. Hobbs, H.J. Kirks, Roger I. Beale, W.H. Story and J.T. Barham. Honorary bearers were: H.L. Westbrook, W.J. Manry, G.A. Lankford, P.W. Smith, Elliott Richardson, Irving Baker, L.J. Bain, Harry Steinhardt, A.D. Sheffield, W.T. Pace, F.R. Benton, C.G. Johnson, M.A. Pierce, E.F. Gillette, L.P. Jervey, D.D. Barham and W.P. Gillette, Jr. There were many handsome floral tributes and interment was made in the Capron cemetery.
