All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ HERBERT RALPH RAWLINGS Herbert Ralph Rawlings, 44, manager of the Pet Ice Cream Company in Newport News, died unexpectedly Monday night, November 27, at Fort Myers, Fla., where he was attending a managers’ meeting. His death resulted from a heart attack. The son of Charles Edward and Beulah Williams Rawlings of Jarratt, the deceased was a member of the Chestnut Avenue Methodist Church, Newport News, where he took an active part in church affairs. Prior to moving to Newport News four years ago he was manager of the Hopewell branch of the Pet Ice Cream Company; and before that he managed the Company’s Franklin plant on South Main Street. He was a member of the Masonic and Pythian lodges in Franklin. Besides his parents Mr. Rawlings is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary McClenny Rawlings, one son, Herbert R. Rawlings, Jr., and one daughter, Miss Lois Faye Rawlings, all of Newport News; one brother, Charles E. Rawlings, Jr., of Danville; one sister, Mrs. Helen Page of Lakeview, S.C.; and several nephews and nieces. The body arrived in Franklin on Wednesday night, and on Thursday afternoon was taken to High Street Methodist Church, from which funeral services were conducted at 3 o’clock by the pastor, Rev. Elmer N. Hassell, assisted by Rev. W.A. Grissom, pastor of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
