Rollings died Saturday morning, May 19, at his home near Dory, after an illness of two weeks. He was the son of the late Patrick Henry and Mrs. Mary Ann Rollings and was born October 12, 1858. About 45 years ago he was married to Miss Adlena Morris of Manry, who died 22 years ago. To this union were born nice children, six of whom are living: four daughters, Mrs. W.F. Ellsworth of Sedley, Mrs. F.R. Warren of Wakefield, Miss Ella Rollings of Dory, and Mrs. C.W. Kitchen of Manry; two sons Leslie Rollings of Surry and Joe Rollings of Dory; two sisters, Miss M.D. Rollings of Dory and Mrs. Lelia Travis of Norfolk; nine grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Early in life he professed faith in Christ and united with Barrett’s Christian Church, remaining true and faithful to his church until the end. About thirty years ago he was ordained a deacon and for a number of years was senior deacon. He was loyal to home ties and his church, always ready to up build God’s kingdom in the hearts of men and in his neighborhood. Funeral services were held from his late home Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock in the presence of a great gathering of friends who had come to pay the last tribute of respect. The body was laid to rest in the family cemetery beneath a mound of beautiful flowers. Rev. C.E. Gerringer was the officiating clergyman. The old comforting hymns, "Asleep in Jesus," "Haven of Rest" and "Nearer My God to Thee," were used. The body bearers were B.A. Travis, P.L. Travis, O.D. Travis, W.F. Ellsworth, C.W. Kitchen, Edwin Drewry, Rufus Drewry, J.W. Collier, M.H. Hargrave, O.R. Cornwell, E.M. Morris, and B.J. Davis. The honorary pallbearers were: J.F. Wellons, J.Q. Hancock, C.A. Brittle, J.W. White, R.C. Hines, E.M. Rollings, J. Clyde Williams, H.L. Kitchen, A.J. Warren, S.H. Rollings, P.H. Barrett, R.D. Magee, R.U. Lane, A.T. Rollings.
