All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ RAINEY FOUND DEAD IN HOTEL Attributed to Natural Causes John Evans Rainey, 67, employed by the Camp Manufacturing Company in Franklin, was found dead in his room at the Busy Bee, 10 a.m. from what investigators called "apparently natural causes." The body waa examined by Dr. E.C. Joyner, city coroner, who discovered no evidence of foul play. Chief Lawrence B. Butler and Investigator H W. Churn checked the corpse for the police. No autopsy will be performed, said Chief Butler, and the body was turned over to W.J.M. Holland and Sons, funeral directors. ****************************************************************************** JOHN EVANS RAINEY John Evans Rainey, 57* years of age, for many years an employee of the Camp Manufacturing Co., working at the time of his death at Camp No. 7 near Suffolk, died during the night of a heart attack in a Suffolk hotel Saturday, October 5. He was the son of the late Thomas and Mrs. Ella Taylor Rainey of Mecklenburg County, and was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, Drewryville. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Arlene Roberts Rainey of Suffolk; four sons, Otis, John E., Jr., and Ryland Rainey of Franklin and Junius T. Rainey of Suffolk; three daughters, Mrs. Ruby Keetch of Newport News, Miss Eunice and Rebecca Rainey of Suffolk; three brothers, three sisters, five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held from the Holland Funeral Home in Franklin Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock conducted by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson of the Franklin Baptist Church, with burial following in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The pallbearers were: N.T. Poarch, F.P. Smith, James Lankford, Herman Warren, Willie Baker and Walter Huntington.
