ROUNTREE DIES IN SLEEP NEWSOMS - Daniel Benjamin Rountree, 69, died unexpectedly in his sleep early today (Thursday) at his home here. He was the husband of Mrs. Carrie Vincent Rountree and son of the late Daniel and Martha Rountree. He was a lifelong resident of Southampton County. He was a retired building contractor after 50 years of service. He was an active and faithful member of the Newsoms Methodist Church, serving as a steward and teacher of the Men’s Bible Class. He was a member of the Newsoms Masonic Lodge and the Newsoms Ruritan Club. Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. J.C. Blythe, Greensville, N.C.; five sons, B.F. Rountree, Portsmouth, Valon F. , Guy P., Donald E. and Lemuel V. Rountree, all of Newsoms; six grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. K.T. Vick and Mrs. Nellie Ferguson, both of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Lelia Witham, Courtland; two brothers, M.V. Rountree, Orange, Calif., and M.F. Rountree, Newsoms. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Newsoms Methodist Church by the Rev. H. Warren Landis, pastor. Burial will be in Hollywood Hill Cemetery, Newsoms.
