NEWSOMS - A funeral service for Guy Pope Rountree Sr., 58, of Newsoms, was held Thursday at 3 p.m. in McDowell Funeral Home, Boykins, by the Rev. Harry Bunch of Newsoms United Methodist Church and the Rev. Roy Everette of Woodbridge. Burial was in Newsoms Cemetery. Pallbearers were Eppa Prince, R.B. Story, J.C. Story, Fred Worrell, E. Beale Carter Jr. and LeRoy Dail. A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of Mrs. Elizabeth Worrell Rountree and a son of the late Daniel Benjamin and Mrs. Maude Cutchins Rountree. He was a farmer and a carpenter. He was a member of Newsoms United Methodist Church, Newsoms Masonic Lodge #128, Newsoms Ruritan Club, and Newsoms Hunt Club. Besides his widow, surviving are a daughter Mrs. Rebecca Dubrowsky of Colonial Heights; a son, Guy Pope Rountree Jr. of Newsoms; a sister Mrs. J.C. Blythe of Greenville, N.C.; four brothers, Benjamin F. Rountree of Portsmouth and Valon F. Rountree, Donald E. Rountree, and Lemuel V. Rountree of Newsoms; and two grandchildren.
