MARTHA JANE WORRELL ROUNTREE

   Mrs. Martha Jane Rountree, 77, wife of the late Daniel Rountree, died 
Friday morning, June 7th, at her home in Newsoms after an illness extending 
over a period of several months.  In the passing of Mrs. Rountree the Newsoms 
community loses one of its oldest citizens.  She was the oldest member of 
Newsoms Methodist Church. She was a loyal mother and friend, ever faithful to 
her family.

   Funeral services were held from the resident Sunday afternoon conducted by 
her Pastor, Rev. J.K. Holman, assisted by Rev. L.E. Dailey of the Baptist 
Church.  Burial was made in Newsoms Cemetery.  Active pallbearers were her 
grandsons, Joseph Francis, Tommie Rountree, William Ferguson, Dan Vick, Guy 
Rountree and Ernest Francis.

   Mrs. Rountree is survived by nine children, five daughters, Mrs. Cora 
Francis of Capron, Mrs. K.T. Vick and Mrs. H.D. Ferguson of Portsmouth, Mrs. 
A.L. Witham and Mrs. J.J. Bryant of Newsoms; four sons, M.E. Rountree of 
Portsmouth, M.W. Rountree of Newport Beach, California, and M.F. and D.B. 
Rountree of Newsoms; a sister, Mrs. Roxanna Worrell of Sunbeam; a brother, 
A.C. Worrell of Newsoms and 41 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.  A 
large crowd was present from the community and out-of-town and beautiful 
floral tributes bore witness of the love and esteem of friends and loved ones. 
The casket was covered with a pall of lilies, rosebuds and fern.
