All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ MARY VIRGINIA LUNDQUIST ROUNTREE The Sunbeam and Newsoms communities were saddened by the death of Mrs. Virginia Lundquist Rountree which occurred in Jersey City, New Jersey, June 3, in her 24th year. She was the youngest daughter of Mrs. Ida V. Lundquist and the late Chas. R. Lundquist and was reared near Sunbeam. She and her youthful husband, Benjamin F. Rountree, graduated together at the Newsoms High School in June, 1929, and were married in August of the same year, making their home in Newsoms for a few months until the death of Mr. Rountree’s mother, when they moved to the home of his father where they remained until March of this year when they west to Jersey City. She was taken ill with tonsillitis, and pneumonia developing, caused her death at the Jersey Hospital within a few days. Her body was brought to the home of her mother where funeral services were held Monday afternoon, June 6, conducted by her Pastor, Rev. L.E. Dailey, assisted by a former pastor, Rev. L.F. Paulette, and Rev. A.K. Lambdin of the Methodist Church. Burial was in the Sycamore Church Cemetery. She united with Sunbeam Baptist Church when quite young and kept her membership there until death. The funeral services were largely attended and the floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. The following young friends served as flower bearers: Virginia Rountree of Portsmouth, Ollie Rountree, Annie Maude Worrell, Bessie Worrell, Marguerite Bunn, Lucile Story and Mildred Story. Guy and Valon Rountree, M.F. and D.B. Rountree, E.W. Drake, E.L. Cutchins, T.J. Rountree and A.L. Witham served as active pallbearers. She leaves to mourn their loss her husband, mother, one brother, Joe Peter Lundquist; two sisters, Mrs. E.W. Drake and Miss Alma Lundquist, besides a large number of relatives and a wide circle of friends. Mary Virginia (LUNDQUIST; Mrs. Benjamin F.)
