Frank Barrett Raymond, 85, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dennis L. Brett, here last Friday afternoon following a long illness. Surviving him besides his daughter are his wife, Mrs. Myra Osborne Raymond; two sons, Charles J. Raymond of Franklin and Frank B. Raymond, Jr. of Lynchburg; a brother, Dr. E.H. Raymond of Port Chester, N.Y.; three sisters, Mrs. Russell Kemp of Longview, Texas, Mrs. Mamie Fortune of Newport News and Mrs. Kate Vinton of Newport, Ohio. Rev. Mr. Raymond was the son of the late Rev. Charles Atwater Raymond and Sarah Augusta Raymond and was born in Edgefield, S.C. His parents moved to Hampton at the outbreak of the Civil War, where his father became president of Chesapeake Female College. Affiliating with the Baptist Church at Hampton Rev. Mr. Raymond later studied theology at Richmond College and Crozer University, graduating from Rochester Seminary in divinity. He held pastorates at Holmesburg, Penn., where he was ordained in 1881, Dunkirk, N.Y., Lexington, Ky., Eminence, Ky., Mathews, Westville, Gwynn’s Island and Spring Hill Church, Gloucester County, all in this State; and Waynesville, N.C., where he married his first wife, who lived only a short time, later marrying his second wife, Myra Osborne of Waynesville, who survived him. Subsequent pastorates were at Clyde, Cliffside, Pittsboro and Como, N.C. Retiring from the ministry while at Como, he lived at Wake Forest for a time while his children were students there, coming to Franklin in 1933 to live with his daughter. Funeral services were held from the Franklin Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. The pastor, Rev. R.D. Stephenson, was assisted by Rev. A. McK. Reynolds of the High Street M.E. Church, Rev. L.F. Paulette of Smithfield, Rev. John R. Link of Windsor, N.C. and Dr. Sidney Matthews of Pine Street Baptist Church, Richmond. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery with the following pallbearers: Herbert Edwards, Dr. T.A. Morgan, John C. Parker, Jr., Edward Gilliam, R.A. Pretlow, Jr., Willie Weede, Guy Hill and R.A. Majette.
