All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ RALPH WALDO EMERSON SPIVEY Emerson Spivey, 38, husband of Winfred Baggat Spivey of Norfolk, died after a lengthy illness last week September 10*, in a Norfolk hospital. He was the son of Joseph H. and Sally Bristow Spivey, of Southampton County, and a member of the Burdette Baptist Church. He was employed by the Norfolk Naval Base as foreman in the shipping department. Surviving besides his wife and parents, are one son, Joe Lee Spivey, Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Carter, Franklin; and Miss Virginia Spivey, Newport News; four brothers, Paul Spivey, Hopewell; Linwood Spivey, New Haven, Conn., Pfc. Elton Spivey, Fort Hancock, N.J., and Edward Spivey, U.S.N., serving overseas. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon, September 12, at 4 o’clock, at the residence of his farther, by Rev. W.B. Watson of Black Creek Baptist Church and Rev. Garrison of Broad Creek Village, Norfolk. The choir sang "Abide With Me." "Have Thine Own Way, Lord," and his favorite song, "Farther Along." The pallbearers were his brothers, Paul, Linwood, and Elton Spivey, Peter Carter, O.L. Joyner, and Roger Tomlin. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin.
