Spivey and a resident of Sedley for many years, died in Raiford Memorial Hospital on Wednesday morning, November 19, after an illness of brief duration. The deceased was a native of Statesville, N.C., a daughter of the late James Henry and Mary Jane Honeycutt Johnson [sic; Johnston*]. She was a member of the Grace Memorial Methodist Church, Sedley. Besides her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Mrs. E.T. Story of Branchville, Mrs. J.W. Johnson of Sedley, Mrs. G.T. Johnson of Suffolk, and Mrs. E.J. Groth of Baltimore, Md.; four sons, James Talley Davis and Henry Johnson Davis, both of Baltimore, and Charlie Burnett Davis and Luther Glenn Davis of Richmond; four stepchildren, Leo and Willie Spivey of Emproia, Miss Eunice Spivey of Franklin, and Mrs. Harriett Gilbert of New York City; 24 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Mattie Early, and one brother, Vance Johnson, both of Statesville. Final rites will be conducted this (Friday) afternoon at 2 o'clock in Grace Memorial Church by the pastor, Rev. Otis L. Gilliam. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Sedley. Rather, her father was Henry Talley JOHNSTON (1840 - 1925). He was a Confederate veteran, having served in Co. C, 4th NC Infantry. His is buried with his second wife (of 3) & his parents, James Albert & Mary G. (TALLEY) JOHNSTON, in New Salem Methodist Church Cemetery, Statesville, NC. (Find a Grave Memorial #33715461) Her mother, Mary Jane (HONEYCUTT) JOHNSTON (1848 - 1896), is buried in Rocky Ridge Methodist Church Cemetery, Concord, Cabarrus Co., NC.
