All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOSEPH HUDSON SPIVEY Joseph Hudson Spivey, 84, retired farmer and carpenter of the Black Creek community, died at the residence on Friday afternoon, June 13, after several months of failing health. He was the husband of Mrs. Sallie Bristow Spivey, and was the oldest member of Black Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Pete Carter of Franklin and Mrs. Virginia Sawyer of Hampton; four sons, L.M. Spivey of New Haven, Conn., Paul B. Spivey of Hopewell, Elton M. Spivey of Norfolk, and Edward F. Spivey of Franklin; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Emmett Spivey of Sedley; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Laine of Petersburg and Mrs. Omey Crocker of Hopewell; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons on Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock by Rev. Len B. Allen, pastor of Black Creek Baptist Church. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were Theo Beale, Charles W. Bulls, Charles Carter, Charles H. Corbitt, W.T. Pace, Jr., G.E. Pillow, L.M. Spivey, Jr., and Roland Whitley.
