Camp, with whom she had lived for more than 25 years. She was born in Como, N.C., December 9, 1868, the daughter of the late Rev. R.R. Savage and Mrs. Rowena Vann Savage, both members of prominent families of Eastern North Carolina. She was reared in one of the most delightful Christian homes it had ever been our privilege to enter, and was educated at Chowan Baptist Female Institute (now Chowan College), the great Baptist school for girls of that section. Her life’s work had been largely given to her church, particularly the interests of its woman’s missionary organizations, although she was active in many phases of church endeavor and for a number of years was Superintendent of the primary department of the Baptist Sunday school here. She served as President of the Woman’s Missionary Society, and was Associational Superintendent of the Woman’s Missionary Union of the Blackwater Baptist Association for several years. It remained for Miss Savage to do some of her best and most effective work in the sphere for which she was so well adapted as State Corresponding Secretary of the Woman’s Missionary Union Virginia from 1921 to 1924. This is the executive position of woman’s work in the Baptist Church of Virginia with headquarters in Richmond, and in this capacity she became known and loved throughout the State for her efficiency in directing this important department of mission activity and by her untiring efforts for its successful functioning. In 1924, she was obliged to resign this position on account of failing health, and had spent the remaining years of her life here in the Camp home. It is remarkable that her death is the first in the family circle of the children of the Savage family, and surviving her are two brothers, Dr. W.V. Savage of Churchland and Toy D. Savage of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. J.L. Camp of our town, and Mrs. Herbert T. Williams of Chase City, besides a number of nephews and nieces and a large family connection in Eastern Virginia and North Carolina. Funeral services were held this (Friday) afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Franklin Baptist Church, where Miss Savage had long been a faithful and consistent member, Rev. R.D. Stephenson, pastor of the church officiating. "How Firm a Foundation" was sung by the choir and the scripture lesson was given by Dr. Sparks W. Melton of Freemason Street Church, Norfolk, followed with prayer by Dr. R.T. Van of Raleigh. After the second hymn, "Asleep in Jesus," Rev. Mr. Stephenson made a brief talk and "I’m Bound for the Promised Land" was used as the funeral party left the church. Interment was made in the family lot in Poplar Spring Cemetery, and the body bearers were her brother, Toy D. Savage, her nephews, Jas. L. Camp, Jr., Hugh D. Camp, Robert Savage, Vann Savage, Robert Williams and H.T. Williams, Jr. Among out-of-town relatives and friends who were here for the funeral were: Rev. and Mrs. Herbert T. Williams of Chase City, Robert Williams of Raleigh, H.T. Williams, Jr. of Richmond, Dr. and Mrs. W.V. Savage, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Savage, Mr. and Mrs. Vann Savage, and Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Hathaway of Churchland, Mr. and Mrs. Toy D. Savage of Norfolk, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh D. Camp of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Mrs. Eldridge Smith of Bradenton, Fla., Dr. R.T. Vann and Dr. Elizabeth Vann of Raleigh, Guy C. Picot of Como, Rev. J.L. McCutcheon of Modest Town, Va., Mrs. Geo. W.
