Spain was born October 7, 1891, in Southampton County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Spain. He died February 14, 1920, of pneumonia following influenza, leaving besides a father and mother, a devoted wife and one daughter, Odell, one sister, Myrtle and two brothers, Oren and Richard. The funeral was conducted by his pastor, Rev. C.H. Kidd. George, as he was known to his intimate friends came to Newsoms to live about four years ago, to take charge of his wife’s aunt’s farm. He professed conversion early in life; was a consistent communicant of the Newsoms M.E. Church and a loyal member of the "Up-streamers" Bible class. His pleasant manners and cheerful disposition made for him many friends. His popularity was made secure by his strong character and diligence which were not the least of those traits which won for him a place among the citizens of the town. As a husband and father he was true and faithful, discharging with fidelity and affection all the duties pertaining to those high and holy relations in life. As a member of the church, he acted well his part, and was ever a faith worker for his Lord in every good work. Our hearts are saddened by his absence but there is comfort in our memory of him, and knowing that we can meet in our Father’s house where separation shall be no more.
