VIOLA GERTRUDE EDWARDS SPAIN 

Mrs. Viola Edwards Spain, age 84, widow of William J. Spain, Sr., died 
October 13, 1978.  Survived by four daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Owen of 
Drewryville, Mrs. Margaret Covington of Portsmouth, Mrs. Dorothy Moore 
and Mrs. Jean Jones, both of Chesapeake; six sons, Robert Wilson and 
Wallace Edwards Spain, both of Norfolk, William J. Spain, Jr. of Suffolk, 
Jack L. Spain of Cleveland, Ohio, Charles E. Spain of San Antonio, Texas, 
George T. Spain of Hampton; thirty-one grandchildren; sixteen great-
grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Annie Lee, Rocky Mount, N.C.; one brother, 
Irving Edwards of Emporia.  Funeral services 2 P.M. Sunday, Thomas Memorial 
Baptist Church, Drewryville, with interment in Drewryville Cemetery. 
Family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the 
Thomas Memorial Baptist Church.  Remains rest at Echols Funeral Home, Emporia.
