All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ THOMAS SPENCE Thomas Spence, age 69, died quietly at his home near Branchville, about 6:00 a.m. Sunday, April 9, 1944, after a lingering illness. He was the son of the late Joseph and Lucy Chitty Spence. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Annie Spence; one daughter, Mrs. Alice Davis, Fentress: three sons, Cleopas Spence, Branchville; William Spence, Drewryville; Wilfred Spence, Holland; two brothers, D.C. Spence, Branchville and R.L. Spence of Durham, N.C., and 13 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from Persons Methodist Church Monday evening, April 10 at 2:30 o’clock with the Rev. L.F. Callaham, pastor of the church officiating. Music was furnished by the choir of the church. Pallbearers were: P.R. Ricks, E.L. Cutchins, R.E. Barrett, Thomas Parker, Aubrey Woodard and Thomas Davis. Burial was in the cemetery of Person’s Church.
