SEBRELL OF COURTLAND DIES THURSDAY AT AGE 81 Information was received shortly before our going to press of the death in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Richmond, early Thursday morning, March 31, of William Joseph Sebrell of Courtland. Mr. Sebrell, who was 81 years of age on March 3, had been in ill health for the past two or three years, but he was taken to the hospital only the day before his death. The deceased was the son of the late William Nicholas Sebrell and Elizabeth Randolph Pretlow Sebrell, and was born at Barn Taveran (Sebrell) on March 3, 1868. He attended the Louisville Business College in Louisville, Ky., where he received the training which was to contribute to his success as a business man. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nannie Prince Sebrell; one daughter, Mrs. Page Sebrell Johnson of Long Island, N.Y., and Sebrell Johnson of Virginia Beach; and a foster daughter, his niece, Miss Elizabeth Randolph Wynns of Courtland. A brother, Marvin Pretlow Sebrell, died on January 22, 1946. Mr. Sebrell was a member of the Courtland Baptist Church, in all the affairs of which he took an active interest. He was a prosperous merchant of Courtland, a farmer, and until 1946 was engaged in the peanut business at the county seat. Like his brothers, Marvin P. Sebrell he represented Southampton County in the General Assembly, his service in the House of Delegates including the sessions of 1924, 1926 and 1927. Funeral services for Mr. Sebrell will be held at the late residence in Courtland this afternoon at two o'clock with Rev. Kenneth Burke of Norfolk, a former pastor of the Courtland Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by Rev. L.M. Kanipe, the present pastor. Interment will be in the Courtland cemetery. ****************************************************************************** WILLIAM JOSEPH SEBRELL SEBRELL FUNERAL IS HELD IN COURTLAND Funeral services for William Joseph Sebrell, who died in a Richmond hospital early Thursday morning, March 31, were held at his home in Courtland Baptist Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. L.M. Kanipe, the present pastor, and Rev. J.R. Johnson, also a former pastor. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. The services were largely attended, and there were many floral tributes. The casket was covered with a blanket of Easter lilies, red rosebuds, gardenias and fern. Active pallbearers were Lucius M. Manry, Prince Sebrell, Marion Joyner, C.C. Vaughan, 3d, J. Edward Moyler, William T. Woodley, Tucker Carney, William Johnson and Jim McDaniel.
