Sykes Jr., 79, died April 11, 2000, at his home. Born in Wallace, N.C., he was a son of the late Edward B. Sykes Sr. and Dora Jones Sykes and the widower of Virginia Cutchin Sykes. He was a retired crane operator in the Wood Yard Department of Union Camp Corp. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Masonic Lodge 151 AF & AM, American Legion Post 73, T.J.'s Club House, the Burdette-Black Creek Hunt Club and the Bronco Rod and Hunt Club. He was a member of Hunterdale United Church of Christ. Survivors include a sister, Mae Lynn; four brothers, C.J. Sykes, William Sykes, Norwood Sykes and Tommie Sykes; a special niece, Nancy Longoria; loving companion, Mary Baggett; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Myrl Sykes Davidson. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Poplar Spring Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Alan Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence at 22437 Shands Drive. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, is in charge.
