Scott, age 63, died at his home in the Courtland community Tuesday afternoon, December 30, after an illness extending over a period of two years. He was a son of the late Theophilus and Mrs. Elizabeth Scott and had spent his entire life in Southampton County. Mr. Scott had been a member of the Courtland Baptist Church since boyhood, loyal and consistent, faithful in attendance at church and Bible school. He was a kind neighbor and generous friend, the beautiful flowers which covered his grave bearing proof of the appreciation and love of those who knew him. Mr. Scott was twice married, first to Miss Sarah Jane Whitehead, who died in 1895, leaving one son, Charles R. Scott. On December 26, 1907, he married Mrs. Flora Yates Whitehead, who survives him with the following children: William O., Hazel, Theo, Henry, Jr., Jannie Lee and Mildred Scott and a stepson, Robert Whitehead. The funeral services held at his home Wednesday afternoon, December 31, were conducted by his pastor, Rev. Gordon L. Price, assisted by a former pastor, Rev. Kenneth E. Burke of Norfolk. During the service, Mrs. C.W. Parker, Mrs. W.J. Story, Mrs. R.G. Edwards, Mrs. Kenneth E. Burke and Miss Elizabeth Story sang "Rock of Ages" and "Abide with Me," Mrs. Burke singing as a request number, "Sometime We'll Understand." Interment was made in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, the pallbearers being: R.C. Williams, G.C. Kirkland, G.L. Bryant, N.L. Jordan, R.F. Beale and W.R. Lamb.
