Scott, 47, a resident of the Franklin community and former resident of Norfolk, died in Leigh Memorial Hospital, Norfolk on Friday afternoon, April 6, after an illness of several months duration. He was the son of the late John and Barsha Bryant Scott of Gates County, N.C. and a member of the Parker Methodist church of Gates County. For many years he was employed as an electrician by the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Surviving him are his wife Mrs. Leafy Hatfield Scott of Franklin; one son, Johnny Lee Scott and one daughter, Miss Vivian Scott, also of Franklin; two brothers, E.J. Scott of Norfolk and L.R. Scott of Portsmouth; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Rountree of Norfolk and Mrs. Ernest Daniels of Corapeake, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral rites were conducted Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Black Creek Baptist Church by the pastor, Rev. J.C. Lanning, followed by burial in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Howard Bradshaw, Earl and Robert Daniel, Crawford Munford, Jr., Walter Rountree, Jr., Donald Scott, Lester Scott, Jr., and Lynn Thomas. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family.
