SCOTT Franklin lost one of its best and most noble Christian women in the death of Mrs. R.B. Scott which occurred in St. Christopher Hospital, Norfolk, Tuesday, December 12, 1916. The body was brought to her home here the same night and the funeral took place Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Franklin Baptist Church. This church possessed no more useful, consistent or more valuable member than Mrs. Scott, active in church, Sunday school, missionary society and other branches of church activity, doing each and every task required of her with that species of cheerful service which is truly well- pleasing to the Lord. The church was crowded with friends of the deceased and in the service conducted by her pastor, Rev. J.L. McCutcheon, assisted by Rev. R.M. Chandler of the Methodist church and Dr. C.H. Rowland of the Christian church, fitting and well-merited tributes were made to the exemplary, self- sacrificing and generous Christian life she had lived in our town and community. There were many handsome floral tributes, among them being special designs from the "King’s Servants" Bible class of the Franklin Baptist Church of which Mrs. Scott was a member, the Bruner class of the same school to which Mr. Scott belongs, and the pupils of the third year in the High school, schoolmates of Mrs. Scott’s daughter, Ethlyn. The interment was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery and the pallbearers were: active, Harry Steinhardt, J.F. Bryant, W.H. Jones, E.L. Beale, J.J. Bristow, R.G. Jones, B.L. Holt, J.L. Scott; honorary, A.L. Gardner, J.D. Abbit, E.S. Eley, J.R. Knight, P.D. Camp, I.E. Howell, Joe Bynum Gay, J.H. Holland, Jr., B.M. Cutchin. Mrs. Scott was before her marriage, Miss Mary Maddox of Greenville, S.C. and was married to Mr. Scott seventeen years ago. She had been a resident of Franklin for sixteen years and was in her forty-third year. Besides her husband and two children, Ethlyn and Council, she leaves a number of relatives and a wide circle of deeply sympathizing friends. Relatives from South Carolina who came to Franklin for the funeral were three sisters, Mrs. Ashmore and Mrs. Charles of Piedmont, S.C., and Miss Maddox of Greenville, S.C., and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Maddox of Greenville.
