VERNARD RALSTON SCOTT 

   FRANKLIN - A funeral service for Vernard Ralston Scott, 70, was held Sunday 
at 4 p.m. in Southampton Memorial Park by the Rev. Walter Snowa, R.E. Brittle 
and Clyde Fields.  Wright Funeral Home was in charge.

   Scott died Friday in a hospital.

   A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of Florence Whitley 
Scott.

   He was a former owner and president of Franklin Contractors Inc.  He was 
a member of Hunterdale United Church Christ and its board of trustees, the 
Hunterdale Ruritan Club and the board of directors of Franklin Concrete 
Products Co.  He was an honorary life member of the Franklin Lions Club.

   Other survivors include a daughter, Susan S. Campbell of Franklin; five 
sisters, Sara Lee Allen, Margaret Joyner, Mary Bridgers and Janice Panton, 
all of Franklin, and Nell Makinson of Currituck, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
