All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLIAM HUNTER SCOTT FRANKLIN - William Hunter Scott, 62, a roadbuilding contractor, died in a hospital early Monday after a brief illness. He was the husband of Mrs. Gertrude Whitley Scott and a son of Andrew Jackson and Mrs. Nellie Rebecca Turner Scott. A lifelong resident of Franklin, he was a member of Hunterdale Christian Church. He was a charter member of Franklin Lion Club, a past president of Virginia Road Builders Association, and a member of the American Road Builders’ Association and Hunterdale Ruritan Club. He owned and operated W.H. Scott and Co. here. Besides his widow, surviving are a daughter, Miss Hunter Dale Scott; a son, William Hunter Scott, Jr., a stepson David Lawrence Jr., and a brother Vernard Scott, all of Franklin; and five sisters, Mrs. Leroy Allen, Mrs. Shelly Joyner and Mrs. Gordon Bridgers of Franklin, Mrs. Gilbert Panton of Newport News and Mrs. Allen Makinson of Norfolk. A funeral service was conducted Tuesday at 4 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Harold W. Tribble of Hunterdale Christian Church and the Rev. Clyde Fields of Elon, N.C. Burial was in Southampton Memorial Park. Pallbearers were: E.M. Burgess, Roland Burgess, Bernard Blythe, C.W. Alley, H.M. Smith, Edward F. Spivey, Claud Scott, Richard Harrell, Stanley Campbell.
