The widow of the late Dr. R.H. Stephenson, well- known Franklin citizen who has been dead for many years, Mrs. Stephenson was 69 years of age, a daughter of the late David and Mrs. Sophia Allen Curry of Eastern North Carolina and herself a native of Suffolk. She had made her home in Franklin for 50 years where she was known and esteemed as a woman of many sterling traits of character. She was a faithful and consistent member of the Franklin Christian Church, she and her sister, Mrs. Alice Norris having made their home together here for a long period of years. Surviving her are one son, Roscoe H. Stephenson; two grandchildren, Mrs. Gordon Cobb and Mrs. V.C. Lankford, Jr.; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Norris of this town and Mrs. J.T. Nelms of Norfolk; a brother, Claude Curry of Suffolk, and a wide circle of friends. Rites for Mrs. Stephenson were held at her late residence Thursday afternoon at 4 o’clock, largely attended and conducted by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson of the Baptist Church in the absence of Mrs. Stephenson’s pastor, Dr. Elwood W. Jones. Burial was made in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Active pallbearers were: Junius W. Pulley of Courtland, Thomas M. Pulley of Ivor, Dr. Morgan B. Raiford, G.E. Pillow, T.A. Gillette, Adler Rawls, J.E. Wright and Glenn Lanier. Honorary bearers were: George N. Lea, Henry Duck, W.R. Atkinson, Dr. Burton J. Ray, Claude J. Edwards, L.R. Jones, Tup Jones, J.D. Fowler, Joe Bynum Gay, Dr. R.H. Cobb and Paul Scarborough.
