All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JAMES HARVEY STEPHENSON WELL KNOWN FARMER DIES UNEXPECTEDLY Funeral services for James Harvey Stephenson, 75, well known retired farmer, who died unexpectedly at his home near Franklin on Monday, December 3, after an illness of three weeks, were held at the grave in Poplar Spring Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. Officiating were Rev. R.D. Stephenson, former pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church and Rev. R.B. Moore, pastor of the Newsoms Methodist Church. The active pallbearers were Thomas Bowles, Sterling Bryant, Warren Councill, J. Letcher Eley, Harry Fowler, H.W. Porter, Frank Stephenson, John Stephenson, J. Edgar Weede and John R. Worrell. Mr. Stephenson was the son of the late Littleton B. and Mrs. Caroline Maddrey Stephenson of Northampton county, N.C. He was a member of the Meherin Baptist Church near Murfreesboro, N.C. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Glennie Kitchen Stephenson of Franklin; a daughter, Mrs. Dewey Howell, also of Franklin; four sons, Julian H. Stephenson of Handsom, Harry S. Stephenson of El Monte, Calif, and Robert A. Stephenson and Gilbert R. Stephenson of Franklin; 13 grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. J.L. Quiminer and Mrs. Henrietta Bell, both of Norfolk. Mr. Stephenson was the first person to be buried in the new addition to the cemetery.
