Martha Rebecca STEPHENSON

A YOUNG LADY'S DEATH 

The Passing Away of Miss Mattie Stephenson, of Southampton County. 

  Suffolk, Va., Dec. 21 - (Special). - The people of Southampton and 
especially those who live near Unity, are mourning the death of Miss Mattie 
Stephenson, daughter of A.T. Stephenson.  Her funeral occurred Sunday.  Rev. 
J.F. Dean, of Windsor, who officiated, says it was one of the largest crowds 
which he has ever seen at a similar service.  People went from Suffolk, 
Norfolk and the surrounding counties.  The deceased was thirty [sic; 34*] 
years old. 

  Miss Stephenson was president of the Tucker Swamp Baptist Ladies' Aid 
Society.  She always took an active part in church affairs, and was 
identified, too, in missionary work.  The church cannot soon fill her place.
