Mrs. Stephens was a member of the Boykins Methodist Church and of the Home Department of the Epworth Bible Class. She was a devoted and sacrificing wife and mother and a true friend and neighbor. Although she was an invalid for six months she never burdened others with her ills. She bore them with patience and Christian fortitude and displayed a bright and cheerful disposition to the end. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon from her home with her pastor, Rev. E.B. Loving, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Frank B. Handley, pastor of the Baptist Church. The choirs of the two churches sang "Safe In the Arms of Jesus." "Sometimes We’ll Understand" and Mrs. H.M. Purviance sang "There Is No Night There." There was a large attendance and many beautiful floral offerings. The casket was covered with a pall of lilies and pink rosebuds. The active pallbearers were: J.M. Britt, W.F. McKinstry, Dr. J.M. Bland, A.L. Knight, A.S. Francis, W. Hugh Powell, J.C. Blowe and B.F. Britt. The honorary pallbearers were members of the Epworth Bible Class of the M.E. Church.
