A native of Southampton County*, he was the husband of Mrs. Julia Joyner Stephenson and the son of Samuel B. and Mrs. Mazie Hines Stephenson of Wakefield. He was employed by Continental Telephone of Va. and had been superintendent of the Franklin-Smithfield Service Center for 18 years. He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church and the Ellis Bible Class. Besides his wife and parents, surviving are one daughter, Selinda Leigh Stephenson and one son, Samuel W. Stephenson, Jr., both of Courtland; one sister, Mrs. Faye Campbell of Richmond; one brother, Robert M. Stephenson of Wakefield. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 2 P.M. in Riverside Cemetery by Rev. Edmund Ellis. W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home in charge.
