All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CATHERINE LEE WRANEK STORY Mrs. Katie Lee Wranek Story, 78, died Monday morning, April 10, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alfred G. Williams, on S. High Street, after an illness of many months. She was born in Fauquier County on July 12, 1872, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine Priest Wranek. Moving at an early age to Charlottesville with her parents, she was educated in the public schools of that city and at the Albemarle Female Institute. After teaching school for one year in South Carolina, she came to Southampton County in 1891 to teach in a private school at Newsoms. On January 16*, 1895, she married Robert Bennett Story of the Courtland community, who preceded her to the grave on March 24, 1944. Since the death of her husband Mrs. Story had made her home with her son, R.B. Story, Jr., at the old homestead and with her daughters in Franklin. Mrs. Story was a member of the Newsoms Baptist Church, serving as its clerk for many years she taught a class in the Sunday school. She was a member of the Woman’s Missionary Union of the church and also of the Blackwater Association, holding office from time to time in both organizations. She was a charter member of the Newsoms W.C.T.U. and its president until a few years ago, when her health began to decline. For many years she held an office in the county W.C.T.U. Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. John E. Bryant and Mrs. Alfred G. Williams of Franklin; a son, R.B. Story, Jr., of Courtland; six grandchildren, John E. Bryant, Jr., of Franklin and the Medical College of Virginia (Richmond), Martha Lee and Mary Frances Williams of Franklin, and Elizabeth Ann, R.B. 3rd, and Edwin Harwell Story of Courtland; four nephews, W.H. Wranek, Jr., of Charlottesville, John J. Wranek of Lynchburg, Edward S. Wranek of Washington, D.C., and Robert L. Wranek of St. Louis, Mo.; and several cousins, one of whom is Mrs. W.J. Story of Courtland. Funeral services for Mrs. Story were held at the graveside in Poplar Spring Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock. The officiating ministers were her pastor, Rev. R.L. Chadwick of Newsoms, Rev. R.B. Moore of Newsoms, and Revs. R.D. Stephenson and Randolph L. Gregory of Franklin. Active pallbearers were Churchill Ridley, Lee Coggsdale, J.C. Story, R.N. Darden, Jr., J. Leroy Dail, W.J. Story, Jr., Burton McLemore, and Marion Whitfield.
