Story and the late Hattie Bishop Story of Newsoms, died at a Portsmouth hospital on Monday afternoon, November 30, after a long illness resulting from a wound he received while serving on the Portsmouth police force. Besides his father he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Keeter [sic; Skeeter] Story, a son, Elridge, Jr., three sisters, Mrs. Billy Bryant of Norfolk, Mrs. Kate O’berry of Suffolk and Miss Nannie Story and a brother, Howard Story, of Newsoms and a number of relatives in the Handsom community where he was born and spent his early life. Funeral services were conducted in Portsmouth with burial in a Portsmouth cemetery on Wednesday afternoon. It states that he was accidentally shot by his partner, ca. 1 Jan 1934. His D.Cert. (26788 {Portsmouth #669}) states he was shot, & had his left leg amputated "2 yrs. ago," but the date is not specified. His parents are buried in Mt. Horeb Methodist Church Cemetery, on Sunbeam Rd.
