STORY DIES AT HER HOME HERE Mrs. Margaret E. Story of this town died suddenly at her home in First Avenue on Friday, September 14, at about 2:30 o’clock p.m. She had been in poor health for several months and while the end might have been expected at any time, it was nevertheless a shock to her children, loved ones and friends, and many there were who were privileged to call this good woman friend and whom she had befriended by those little acts of neighborly kindness with which her life was filled. Mrs. Story was the daughter of the late Spratley L. and Susan Frances Williams and was in her seventy-ninth year. She was preceded to the grave many years ago by her husband, the late Elliott L. Story. The deceased was born in Courtland and for the greater part of her life lived at the old Story homestead near Nottoway Chapel M.E. Church until she removed to this town. Joining Nottoway Chapel as a girl of fifteen, she had been a faithful, loyal and consistent member of that church until her death, and had constantly exemplified her faith in the splendid Christian life which she lived. She is survived by three children, E. Frank Story, Mrs. Ashley P. Cutchin and Miss Susie Story, all of this town; by three grandchildren, Ashley Cutchin, Jr., Miss Margaret Cutchin and Frank Story Cutchin, and by a wide circle of friends throughout the county. Funeral services were conducted from her late residence in First Avenue Sunday morning, September 16, at 11 o’clock by the Rev. L.S. Flournoy, pastor of High Street M.E. Church, assisted by Dr. H.C. Pfeiffer, presiding elder of the Portsmouth - Newport News District. One selection, "Nearer My God to Thee", a favorite hymn of Mrs. Story’s, was sung by the choir of the Methodist Church. Interment was made in the family burying ground at the old Story homestead in the county, the pallbearers being; M.H. Moore, Judge Jas. L. McLemore, L.L. Manry, L.J. Bain, W.T Pace, J.A. Jackson, D.T. Prince and G.T. Caroon. Margaret E. (WILLIAMS; Mrs. Elliott L.)
