All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ MARY MOORE PEIRCE STORY Mrs. Mary Moore Peirce Story, 81, widow of Dr. Beaman Story, died suddenly at her home in Franklin on April 9, 1979. She was a native of Lancaster Co., Va., and the daughter of the late Joseph Peirce and Janet C. Gilliam Peirce. She attended Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, Lynchburg, and taught in the public schools of Franklin. In 1922, she was married to Dr. Story, a prominent dentist who died May 10, 1971. Mrs. Story was a member of the Franklin Book Club, and a charter member of Southampton Co. Historical Society. She was a member before her marriage of St. Mary’s White Chapel Episcopal Church, Lancaster Co., and after her marriage, the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Franklin. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Janet P. Whitehead of Eastville, Va., and widow of Winton Whitehead, and Miss Alice Clark Peirce of Franklin; two nieces, Miss Janet C. Whitehead of New York, N.Y., daughter of Mrs. Janet P. Whitehead, and Miss Jane Riddle Schwenck of Washington, D.C., daughter of the late Mrs. Eliza Peirce Schwenck. Funeral services will be conducted in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Franklin, Wednesday at 11 a.m. by the Rector Rev. Ben R. Duffy. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. The family has requested that no flowers. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, in charge of arrangements. Her parents m. 4 Apr 1894, Northumberland Co. They appear in the 1900 Census in White Chapel District, Lancaster Co. (e.d. 45, p. 18B), a few houses down from her paternal grandparents. Her parents & paternal grandparents are buried in St. Mary's White Chapel Episcopal Church Cemetery. Find a Grave (Mem. #21416099 &c.) calls it Saint Mary's Whitechapel Episcopal Churchyard. Her maiden name is fairly consistently spelled PEIRCE.
