Story, died at his home near Newsoms Monday, September 25, after being ill for three months. Mr. Story, a well-known citizen of Southampton County, was born reared and spent his entire life on the same farm. He is survived by his wife, who was before her marriage Miss Lula Bryant of Riddicksville, N.C.; three sons, Glennan P. Story of Newport News, Larry D. Story of Como and James C. Story of Newsoms; two daughters, Mrs. James Pledger of Oceana and Mrs. Clarence O’Neil of Norfolk; four grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Nannie Barrett of Suffolk, besides a large family connection. Funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday afternoon by his Pastor, Rev. J.K. Holman, assisted by Rev. N.B. Foushee and Rev. L.E. Dailey. The active pallbearers were: R.B. Story, H.T. Miles, S.L. Bryant, G.A. Fowler, R.G. Edwards, H.A. Barrett, Joe Brown and Lycurgus Barrett. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Burial was in the family cemetery. Mr. Story had been a member of Mt. Horeb M.E. Church for many years. The beautiful flowers and the large crowd of friends and relatives at the funeral bore witness of the esteem in which he was held, many coming from Gates County, N.C., Norfolk, Portsmouth and Suffolk. A devoted husband and father, a good citizen and neighbor has gone to his reward.
