STORY DIES AT HOME LAST FRIDAY AFTER LONG ILLNESS Robert Bennett Story of Southampton County, after an illness of many months, died in his 74th year, at his home near Courtland on Friday afternoon March 24. His lifelong home was in the community in which he was born. He gave his life to farming in which he found happiness as well as successful achievement. The late Edwin and Mary Williams Story were his parents. His wife, Mrs. Katie Wranek Story and two daughters, Mrs. J.E. Bryant and Mrs. A.G. Williams, both of Franklin, and one son, R.B. Story, Jr., of Courtland, survived him. There are six grandchildren, J.E. Bryant, Jr., Martha Lee and Mary Frances Williams of Franklin, Elizabeth Ann, Robert Bennett, 3rd and Edwin Harwell Story of Courtland, E.F. Story of Ashland, Ky., and W.J. Story of Courtland are his brothers. Mr. Story married Miss Katie Lee Wranek on January 16*, 1895, making this the 50th year of their married life. Mr. Story, assisted by his devoted and efficient wife, was zealous in promoting social and moral reforms and was aboundingly useful in all community enterprises. His devotion to his church was unfailing. He joined in his early life Whitehead Methodist Church, near Capron. About thirty years ago he moved his church membership to Newsoms Methodist Church. For twenty-seven years he served efficiently and with marked fidelity as superintendent of the Newsoms Methodist Church, of which he was also a faithful steward. Funeral services were at 4 o’clock on Saturday afternoon in Poplar Spring Cemetery in Franklin, and were conducted by the Rev. L.G. Tinnell, the Rev. F.G. Baker, the Rev. C.P. Cleveland, the Rev. R.D. Stephenson, the Rev. L.F. Paulette, the Rev. Percy D. White and the Rev. R.H. Marks. Pallbearers were J.C., L.D., Edward and William Story, B.L. Bunn, Franklin Edwards, H.B. McLemore, Jr., and C.G. Ridley. The writer, while standing at the funeral hour, amongst the great sorrowing throng of choice Southampton citizens and while the beautiful aongs of the quartette were still vibrant in the air, heard a prominent man, who had long and intimately known Mr. Story, remark "a good man had gone to his reward." I concur and say a fine citizen of Southampton has gone to his "long home."
