All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WALTER FRANKLIN STORY Walter Franklin Story, 52, a native of Franklin and for many years a prominent citizen of Suffolk, died Monday at about 6 p.m. following a sudden heart attack in his office. Mr. Story was the son of the late James Marion and Pattie Beaman Story of Franklin and was prominently connected throughout this section. He attended Franklin Military Academy and Randolph-Macon College, Ashland. President of the National Screen Factory at Suffolk, he was a highly successful business man and was a member of the Suffolk Selective Service Board. Mr. Story was a member of the Board of Stewards of Main Street Methodist Church and was superintendent of its Sunday school, being also a district steward in Portsmouth-Newport News Methodist Conference. He held membership in Suffolk Lodge No. 30, A.F.& A.M., was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and was chairman of the camping committee of the executive board of the Old Dominion Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Inez Knight Story and a son, Walter Franklin Story, Jr., a student at the University of Richmond; two brothers, Dr. Beaman Story of Franklin and James Marion Story; a sister, Mrs. Herman Cobb of Franklin, and the following nieces and nephews; 1st Lieut. William E. Snipes, Jr. Camp Jackson, S.C.; Mrs. David Bell of Capron; B. Anthony Cobb, Elliott Story, and Miss Dorothy Story of Franklin. Services were conducted at 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at Main Street Methodist Church by his pastor, Dr. A.L. Franklin. The casket was covered with calla lilies, delphinium and roses and there were numbers of beautiful floral designs sent by various organizations with which the deceased had been affiliated. The songs "In the Garden" and "In the Hour of Trial" were used. Pallbearers were John C. Parker Jr., and Franklin Edwards of Franklin; Albert G. Beaman and Dr. Curtis Hudgins, jr. of Norfolk; Thurman Williams, G. Gibson Howell, W. Irving Knight, Jr., B. Anthony Cobb, Lieut. William E. Snipes and Elliott Story. Interment was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery here, where Dr. Franklin conducted the committal service.
